MAN, 44, CHARGED AFTER ALLEGED THREAT TO BOMB VIENNA CHURCH: A 44-year-old man of no fixed address faces two felony charges following a Feb. 2 incident at the hypothermia shelter at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St., N.E.

The incident occurred at 3:04 a.m. when the suspect, a patron of the shelter, was sleeping in front of its exterior door and became upset when a shelter worker asked him to move, Vienna police said.

The man allegedly smashed the window inside the door and threatened to bomb the church before running from the scene, police said.

Vienna police subsequently obtained two felony warrants for the man, which charged him with property destruction and making threats to bomb.

Officers from the Fairfax City Police Department on Feb. 9 located the man at The Lamb Center in their jurisdiction. They arrested the man and took him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities served him with the two warrants.

VIENNA WOMAN REPORTS BACKYARD FAUCET LEFT RUNNING TWICE: A woman living in the 400 block of Windover Avenue, N.W., told Vienna police that between Jan. 1 and Feb 1 there had been two incidents where she found the faucet in her back yard was open and running.

The resident did not know who turned on the faucet or how long it had been running.

MAN BANNED FROM VIENNA HYPOTHERMIA SHELTER: A worker at the hypothermia shelter at Vienna Presbyterian Church, 124 Park St., N.E., on Feb. 9 at 9:10 p.m. told Vienna police that a man who had been banned from their program had snuck into the church and they wished to have him trespassed.

An officer located the man at the bus stop at Maple Avenue, E., and Park Street, S.E., and told the man he was banned from the shelter’s premises and might be arrested if he returned.

RESTON MAN, 18, ARRESTED FOR DRUNK DRIVING IN VIENNA: A Vienna police officer on Feb. 9 at 11:37 p.m. observed a vehicle traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed near Maple Avenue, E., and Westbriar Drive, N.E., and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon interacting with the man, the officer detected signs of impairment. The man failed a series of field-sobriety tests and police arrested him. A juvenile passenger was in the vehicle and also had been drinking, police said.

Police took the driver, an 18-year-old Reston man, to the Vienna Police Station, where he provided a sample of his breath for analysis.

Police then transported him to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with driving while intoxicated (under 21 years old).

Another officer transported the juvenile passenger to the Vienna Police Station and released him to the custody of his mother after warning him about drinking alcohol underage.

CUSTOMER AT VIENNA BAR REPORTEDLY THREATENS, PHOTOGRAPHS MAN: A local man told Vienna police on Feb. 10 at 2:14 p.m. that he’d had lunch with a friend at Hawk & Griffin, 435 Maple Ave., W., and as they were leaving, he

commented to another customer who loudly had been making some negative statements.

The customer followed the complainant out of the restaurant and allegedly began yelling, threatening him, and taking photos of him and his friend before leaving the area, police said.

VIENNA POLICE ARREST CENTREVILLE MAN, 23, ON DRUNK-DRIVING CHARGE: A Vienna police officer on Feb. 11 at 4:08 a.m. observed a vehicle traveling westbound in the 300 block of Maple Avenue, W., at a  high rate of speed and initiated a traffic stop.

Upon interacting with the driver, the officer detected signs of impairment, police said.

The driver failed to complete a series of field-sobriety tests and police arrested him.

Police took the 23-year-old Centreville man to the Vienna Police Station, where he provided a sample of his breath for analysis.

Police then transported the man to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where authorities charged him with driving while intoxicated (second offense within 10 years).

MAN STEALS 4 BOTTLES OF WINE FROM VIENNA CONVENIENCE STORE: An employee at 7-Eleven, 537 Maple Ave., W., told Vienna police on Feb. 11 at 10:23 p.m. that a man came into the store, took four bottles of wine and left the store without paying for them.

CURB STRIKE, PEDAL MISTAKE CAUSES DRIVER TO CRASH VEHICLE IN VIENNA: A motorist traveling northbound on Lawyers Road, N.W., on Feb. 9 at 2:36 p.m. attempted to turn right onto Church

Street, N.W., when the driver clipped the curb with the vehicle and accidentally hit the gas pedal instead of the brake, Vienna police said.

The vehicle struck a streetlight pole, then traveled across the intersection and struck a fire hydrant, brickwork and a fence.

The vehicle came to a stop at 145 Church Street, N.W., after striking the railings and an awning on the building.
