A single-digit Sunday night could be in store for region

Cold snap starts to break on Monday, then warmer temperatures ... and rain ... arrive

You knew it would be cold before next week's warm-up arrived, but were you expecting a nighttime low in the single digits across Northern Virginia?

That's a distinct possibility, as the GazetteLeader's weather partner, AccuWeather, is forecasting the thermometer bottoming out at just 9 degrees on Sunday [Jan. 21] night into Monday.

But then a warming trend begins, with highs in the 40s Monday and Tuesday and likely in the 50s and (dare we dream?) even possibly very low 60s in succeeding days before falling back into the 40s at the end of the work week.

But Suzie Sunshine isn't going to be out in force – forecasters expect a lot of rain once the weather turns warmer.
