The Wakefield High School boys soccer team had a lopsided 8-0 victory over the Chantilly Chargers in recent action.

The Wakefield Warriors recorded one of their biggest lopsided victories in recent  soccer seasons with an 8-0 blanking of the visiting Chantilly Chargers in a recent non-district boys high-school match.

With the win, Wakefield improved its overall record to 3-1-1 and remained unbeaten in four straight games, following an opening-season loss. The shutout was the Warriors’ second this spring.

“The boys played very well and started with great possessions and quite a few scoring chances,” Wakefield coach Eddie Carrasquillo said. “The defense was very solid, only allowing a few shots. It was overall a great display of teamwork.”

The game was stopped with 15 minutes left because of the “slaughter rule.”

Jacob Peale scored two of Wakefield’s goals. Bruce Gonzales Cordova, Andrew Soto, Luke Kelly, Jerry Lopez-Felix, Elvin Yapura and Erik Vasquez Ayala netted the others.

Assists went to Peale, Addis Sahle, Anu Dubale and Lavand Aqwari.

Wakefield has two more non-district matches scheduled this week. The Warriors then open their Liberty District schedule on April 8 with an away match against the Herndon Hornets.

Wakefield has home games against Arlington rivals Yorktown and Washington-Liberty on April 18 and 26, respectively.

Washington-Liberty is 4-0 so far this season, with three wins by 2-1 scores. The latest was a home victory over the Hayfield Hawks earlier this week in non-district play.

Washington-Liberty is coached by Carrasquillo’s older brother Jimmy Carrasquillo.

Washington-Liberty has another non-district match scheduled against South Lakes this week, then opens Liberty District play April 8 at home against the McLean Highlanders, unbeaten with a 4-0-1 mark.
