Wakefield High athletes place in state track and field meets

A junior, senior lead way with thirds in girls and boys high jumps

The Wakefield Warriors’ Kenedy Shields and Ben Chapuis had the highest individual finishes of Arlington athletes at the recent Virginia High School League’s Class 6 state indoor track and field championships.

Shields, a senior, placed third in the girls high jump with a leap of 5-feet, 4-inches. Chapuis, a junior, also was third (6-2) in the boys high jump.

In addition for the 16th-place Wakefield girls, the 4x800 relay was fifth and the 4x200 eighth, Hosanna Connor was fourth in the pole vault (10-6) and 11th in the triple jump, Addison Young was 10th in the 1,000 meters and Grace Armitage was 12th in the triple jump.

For the Washington-Liberty girls, Amela Male was sixth in the shot put, and for the Yorktown High girls, Eleanor Whitehouse was 11th in the 1,600.

In the boys meet for 28th-place Wakefield, Chapuis added an 11th in the triple jump, Owen Jacques was seventh in the high jump and 11th in the 500, Michael Hutchinson was 10th in the shot put and Jackson Gray 10th in the pole vault.

Yorktown’s Reid Dalley was ninth in the boys 3,200.
