In other girls softball news, a showdown between the defending state champion McLean Highlanders (Class 6 public school) and Bishop O’Connell Knights (Division I private school) is set for Monday, April 15 at 6:30 p.m. at McLean, which began the week with a 7-1 record with one shutout.
O’Connell had a 7-0 mark with four shutouts as of March 29.
Connell’s leading hitters through seven games have been a number of players.
Abby Bond was batting .583 with 22 RBI, two home runs, two triples and three doubles. Ace pitcher Bri Lencz was hitting .526 with a homer, four doubles and six RBI. Ari Clark had a .478 average with a homer, triple and three doubles with 22 RBI.
Sofia Anderson was hitting .565 with two doubles, Sophia Taliaferro had a .538 average, Gigi Payne was batting .529, M.J. Melvin .455 with two home runs, three triples a double and 12 RBI and Emma Prykanowski was hitting .385 with a homer and seven RBI.
On the mound, Lencz had a 4-0 record with 32 strikeouts in 22 innings and a 1.91 earned run average.
