O'Connell baseball team wins two straight and three of four

Pitching strong in the Knights' last three victories

Michael Powell is a top returner for the Bishop O'Connell baseball team this season.

The Bishop O’Connell Knights (11-8) blanked the visiting Bishop Ireton Cardinals, 4-0, then routed John Paul the Great, 16-2, in high-school baseball action to end last week.

The victories gave the Knights three wins in their last four games.

Sophomore right-hander Shota Fogus started and pitched four innings of one-hit ball with a walk and four strikeouts to get the win, and Drew Markey worked the final three frames of three-hit ball with three Ks against Ireton.

With the bat, O’Connell’s Jack Woda had three hits (double) and two RBI, Noah Haught had a hit, two RBI and a sacrifice fly and Kamari Chisholm singled. Michael Powell stole two bases and scored a run.

In the win over John Paul the Great, Haught had three hits and three RBI, Steven McNeill had two hits and two RBI, Powell had two hits and an RBI, Peyton Kijek homered, James Robinson doubled and drove in two runs, Andy Fronczek doubled and had three RBI, and Woda and Chase Armour each doubled. O’Connell had 14 hits.

Pitchers Mark Sirianni pitched four innings with seven strikeouts, and Haught worked two with four Ks.
