Marymount University swim teams win conference championships

Both squads have multiple individual and relay race winners

The Marymount University men's and women's swimming teams gather with conference championship trophies

With multiple individual and relay champions, the Marymount University Saints men’s and women’s teams each recently won the Atlantic East Conference swimming championships.

The men finished first with 879 points and the women with 717. The men won by 175 points and the women by a much slimmer 16 points over St. Mary’s College of Maryland.

Leading the men were double winners Garrett Watson in the 400-yard individual medley and 1,650 freestyle and Alexander Hain in the 200 IM and 100 breaststroke.

Single winners were Trevor Cairns in the 200 backstroke and Carsten Hicks in the 100 butterfly. Cairns also was second in the 200 free and IM and Luke Claudy was second in the 50 and 100 free.

Garrett Peck was second in the 500 free and third in the 200 and 400 IM and 200 back; Hicks was third in the 50 and 100 free; Evan Park was third in the 100 back and 200 breast; Hain was third in the 200 fly; Devin Coster was third in the 1,650 free; Gavin Keane was third in the 100 fly; and Justin Singletary was third in the 100 back.

Other swimmers scoring for the men were Seth Reinsel, Daniel Caldwell, Matthew Jones and Laine Eary.

The Marymount men won the 200 free, 400 free and 800 free relays.

Lillian Crawley (200 and 500 free) and Tidawee Srun (100 breast and 200 breast) each won two races to lead the Marymount women. Srun was second in the 400 IM and Crawley third in the 100 free.

Alexandra Pette won the 200 back and was second in the 100 back and third in the 100 fly. Cara Craig won the 400 IM and was second in the 200 back and 200 IM. Arianna Koerner won the 100 back and was third in the 50 free and 200 back. Sydney Runk won the 1,650 free and was third in the 500 free.

Also, Ilana Hawkins was second in the 50 free and 100 fly and third in the 100 free, Ella DeNicola was third in the 200 breast, Isabella Ochalik was third in the 200 fly and Payton So was fourth in the 50 free.

The Marymount women won the 200 and 400 medley relays.
