Letter: Post 139 baseball builds leaders, not just players

'This program serves as a platform for invaluable life lessons and personal development.'

To the editor: I am writing to express my concern over the potential disbanding of Arlington’s American Legion Post 139 baseball team.

I want to share my tremendous admiration and support for the outstanding Post 139 baseball program that Coach Bob Romano has been running for many years. As a parent of a former Post 139 player and an avid supporter of youth-development initiatives, I feel compelled to highlight the positive impact that this program has had on our community’s youth.

Coach Romano has consistently demonstrated a commitment to creating an organized and competitive environment that fosters the growth of Arlington’s young men.

The American Legion Post 139 baseball team has had great success, but it is not just about winning. This program serves as a platform for invaluable life lessons and personal development.

One of the most commendable aspects of the program is the emphasis on teamwork and effective communication. Through their experiences on the field, these young athletes are learning how to collaborate, support one another and communicate effectively – life lessons that extend far beyond the baseball diamond. Indeed, they are essential skills for success in so many aspects of life, including academics, careers and social relationships, not to mention being a kind person.

It is evident that Coach Romano is the backbone of the team, and his leadership style is truly admirable. His dedication to the players and their families goes beyond just coaching; he is a mentor and a role model. The respect and regard he commands from both players and their families speak volumes about his character and the positive influence he has on these young individuals.

The American Legion Post 139 baseball team provides Arlington’s youth with a unique and enriching opportunity to develop not only as athletes but as well-rounded young men. As a community, we should celebrate and support programs like these.
