To the editor: As American Legion’s own Website says about its baseball program, “American Legion is a national institution, having thrived through a world war, several national tragedies and times of great prosperity as well as great despair.”

And yet, Arlington’s Post 139 commander is willing to sacrifice the 2024 baseball season because of infighting with other members of his post.

Post 139 has a strong history in Arlington, and under Bob Romano’s leadership it has continually attracted many of Arlington’s best baseball players. It is a thriving program with engaged and enthusiastic players and families.

Canceling the season over internal disagreements, as reported by the GazetteLeader, seems antithetical to American Legion Baseball’s code of sportsmanship and against rules of fair play. I hope the post leadership will reconsider this ill-advised decision and Let the Boys Play!
