A grant from the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation will boost local efforts to improve “Grandma’s Creek” in Arlington’s Barcroft community.

The $280,000 in funding is part of $206 million in grants over the next four years that will be provided to fund local projects connected to protection of the Chesapeake Bay watershed.

Residents of the Barcroft community approached the county government to explore potential stormwater solutions to reduce runoff and erosion in Grandma’s Creek. The result is a multi-pronged effort that will involve both the county government and community partners.

“We’re thrilled to see these watershed-protection plans come to life, helping us preserve our beloved stream,” said neighborhood advocates Don Bennett and Mateo Fields, as quoted by the county government.
