Federal funding totaling slightly more than $2 million will allow Culpepper Garden, which provides housing and services to low-income Arlington seniors, to take up a revitalization project to update its independent-living and assisted-living wings.

The updates will include a host of renovations to apartments, installing new elevators and walkways, and other efforts to improve quality of living and accessibility for residents, the housing organization said.

“We are immensely grateful to our leaders in Congress for recognizing the growing need for affordable housing for at-risk older adults,” said Marta Hill Gray, president of Culpepper Garden. “We know that stable and quality housing leads to better health outcomes for older adults, and these earmarks will go directly towards improving our facilities and our residents’ quality of life.”

Culpepper Garden provides 350 affordable independent- and assisted-living apartments and offers a vast green space near Ballston that is home to more than 30,000 daffodils and numerous native Virginia plants.

Founded 52 years ago, Arlington Retirement Housing Corp. is the non-profit owner of Culpepper Garden. For information, see the Website at www.culpeppergarden.org.
