Dates have been announced for the 2023 Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, which will bring together hundreds of local residents at dozens of venues across the region.

A record number of individuals – ages 50 to 100 – participated in the 2022 Senior Olympics, and “we are anticipating an even larger participation this year,” said Herb Levitan, who chairs the event.

Competition runs from Sept. 9-24 across the region. Registration opens July 6 and closes Aug. 24.

The registration fee is $20, which includes participation in an unlimited number of events. (A few events require a slight surcharge due to the venue, personnel or equipment required.)

New for 2023: Synchronized diving has been added to diving events, advanced Sudoku is being added to traditional Sudoku, and nine-hole par-3 golf has been added.

To participate in Northern Virginia Senior Olympics, persons must be 50 years of age by Dec. 31 and live in a sponsoring jurisdiction (the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church and the counties of Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun, Fauquier and Prince William). Gold, silver and bronze medals are awarded after each event.

The Northern Virginia Senior Olympics Website is www.nvso.us. Additional information can be obtained by emailing nvso1982@gmail.com, which also is the e-mail address for this who wish to volunteer.
