Deadline to be extended for county historic-resources grants

Some groups receiving funding will now have until end of year to get work done

Arlington County leaders on April 20 are slated to extend the length of time several organizations will have before historic-preservation funds have to be spent.

Six ongoing projects of the county government’s Historic Preservation Fund appear unlikely to be completed by their deadline of June 30, so county staff have proposed pushing the deadline back to Dec. 31.

There are several reasons for the delays, including a number of factors out of the control of grant recipients, county historic-preservation staff said in recommending the timeline be extended.

Among the projects that would benefit are interpretation efforts in the Dominion Hills, Lyon Park and Green Valley neighborhoods, a George Mason University study of “Black Mobility in Arlington County” and restoration work at the historic Fraber House.
