Melanie Anderson has been tapped to serve as new executive director of Arlington Thrive.

Melanie Anderson has been selected as the new executive director of Arlington Thrive, which for the past 48 years has provided assistance to those facing short-term financial crises and now has expanded into additional social-safety-net services.

Most recently, Anderson has served as executive vice president of the National Association of Workforce Boards.

“I believe we can create a more resilient and supportive community for all,” said Anderson, who will assume the position on Oct. 16.

Members of the organization’s board said Anderson will help lead Arlington Thrive into “a new era.”

“Her leadership is rooted in active listening, teamwork and forward-thinking strategies,” board chair Karen Daniel said.

During the fiscal year that ended in June, Arlington Thrive provided $7 million in direct assistance to Arlington households in need, and recently created a “child-care navigator” program to support families.
