Arlington ranks second statewide in new wealth ranking

Falls Church tops list in Old Dominion; Calif. communities at top nationally

Arlington ranks second in Virginia in a new “wealth index” compiled by SmartAsset.com.

Counties across the nation were ranked based on per-capita income, investment income and property value. The highest scoring community (San Mateo County, Calif.) had its result set at 100, with all other communities ranking below it.

With an overall wealth index of 64.86, Arlington ranked below the city of Falls Church (72.89) among Virginia locales. Immediately below Arlington were Fairfax County (53.46), Loudoun County (53.27) and the cities of Fairfax (52.49) and Alexandria (50.23).

The top four counties nationally on the wealth-o-meter all were in California; following San Mateo, they included San Francisco, Santa Clara and Marin counties. Nantucket County, Mass., rounded out the top five, followed by New York County, N.Y.; Teton County, Wyo.; Falls Church; Alameda County, Calif.; and Dukes County, Mass.
