He can’t do it alone, and Arlington County Republican Committee chairman Matthew Hurtt is putting out a call for those willing to fill leadership positions in the party.

“I want to spend a significant amount of time building out, strengthening and empowering leaders in these roles,” Hurtt said in a recent missive to the Arlington GOP rank-and-file.

At the same time, he promised efforts wouldn’t splinter into factionalism, rendering the moot.

“Anyone and everyone who wants to play a role in Virginia’s Republican Party processes in Arlington will be given the opportunity to do so,” Hurtt said. “This is not the case in every [Republican committee] in every community across the country, but I commit to you that the Arlington GOP is open to anyone who wants to advance our Republican principles.”

Hurtt has been acting chair since his predecessor, Lori Urban, moved to Arizona, and recently was elected to a full term.

Being sought are contenders for vice chairman, secretary, membership director, communications director and three at-large committee posts. Also being reconstituted are committees dealing with finance, candidate search, precinct operations, policy, communications, membership and outreach.

“Ideally, the committees will consist of three or more members,” Hurtt said.

Like its Democratic counterpart, the local GOP also has been on the hunt for those interested in being delegates to the 8th Congressional District and state party conventions. The 8th District GOP convention will be held April 11, the state convention June 1; the registration deadline was on March 25.
