N.Va. home sales kick off 2023 roughly on par with year before

Sales are up in Arlington, down in Fairfax, basically flat region-wide

There wasn’t much locality-by-locality consistency, but add up home sales in Northern Virginia’s five largest jurisdictions for January 2024 and you come up with a figure essentially on par with January 2023.

A total of 1,249 properties went to closing during the month in the five localities, according to data reported by MarketStats by ShowingTime, as analyzed by the GazetteLeader.

That’s effectively unchanged from the 1,254 sales recorded during the month of January 2023. But there were significant variations:

• Home sales in Fairfax County totaled 522, down 5.4 percent from 552 a year before.

• Sales in Prince William County totaled 275, down 8 percent from 299.

• Sales in Loudoun County totaled 222, up 15.6 percent from 192.

• Sales in Arlington totaled 123, up 14.3 percent from 105.

• Sales in Alexandria totaled 107, up 0.9 percent from 106.

Figures represent most, but not all, sales across the various jurisdictions. All January 2023 figures are preliminary and are subject to revision.
