Northside Property Yard is the town of Vienna’s main public-works facility and soon it will get an extra security measure to protect its stored equipment, fueling stations, vehicles and tools.

The Vienna Town Council on April 10 unanimously agreed to spend $312,522 in federal American Rescue Plan Act funds to purchase and install additional security equipment at the site, located at the northern tip of Mill Street, N.E.

The new security system will include motorized gates, key-card access points and after-hour automated closing controls at both roadway entrances.

Town workers manually secure the site’s existing gates with padlocks, but motorized gates with electronic locks provide additional reliability and protection, including automated after-hour closing controls, town officials said.

Under the approved measure, Securitas Electric Security Inc. will receive $123,963 for the security system’s components and installation,  WesMart Inc. will do the electrical work for $160,280 and Long Fence will be paid for $28,279 for components of the gates’ motors and their installation.
