A motorist was traveling westbound on Maple Avenue, E., near St. Andrews Drive, N.E., on April 23 at 3:44 a.m when she observed another vehicle approaching her from behind at a high rate of speed.

The other vehicle ran into the rear of the motorist’s vehicle, spinning it around and sending it into the median between the service road and Maple Avenue, Vienna police said.

The striking vehicle overturned on Maple Avenue. Upon interacting with the striking vehicle’s driver, police detected signs of impairment.

Rescue personnel transported both drivers and a passenger from the striking vehicle to area hospitals for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Police went to the hospital and arrested the striking vehicle’s driver, a 22-year-old Alexandria man, on charges of driving while intoxicated and not having a driver’s license.
