Bishop Isaac Bangisa and priests of the diocese of Ezo, South Sudan, pose with some of the bicycles funded by parishioners of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls.

Parishioners of St. Francis Episcopal Church in Great Falls have raised funds to provide for the purchase of bicycles to be used by 24 parish priests in the partner diocese of Ezo, South Sudan.

“Ezo is in a remote area that lacks paved roads, and motorized vehicles are few and far between,” St. Francis officials said. “The Episcopal churches of Ezo provide not just spiritual support but also social services, health clinics, schools, wells for fresh water, and much more to the families who live there. Until the arrival of the bikes, most parish priests walked many miles in carrying out their duties; the new bikes will allow the priests to serve their communities more effectively.”

Bishop Isaac Bangisa of Ezo received the bicycles with great thanks to the parishioners of St. Francis, which has a 25-year-plus partnership with the South Sudan area. There have been visits between Ezo and Great Falls, as well as mutual prayers and support.

“We are humbled by the work of Bishop Isaac and the people of Ezo, who make the most of very difficult conditions,” said Rev. David Lucey, rector of St. Francis.
