With a 2-1 victory over their Vienna rival (and the top-seed) Madison Warhawks in the championship game, the second-seeded Oakton Cougars won the girls Concorde District soccer tournament and were the only local high-school team in the GazetteLeader coverage to win such a title.
For the Oakton girls, the victory improved the team’s overall record to 13-2, as it defeated Madison (12-2-1) for the second time this season, both by one goal. The Warhawks defeated Oakton during the first of two regular-season matches between the rivals.
Oakton was 2-0 in the Concorde tourney, topping Centreville, 1-0, in the semifinals.
Next for Oakton is the 6D North Region tournament and the team won its first-round match and is scheduled to play in the semifinals tonight.
