The McLean Highlanders improved to 3-0 for the first time since 2010 and now already have two more victories than all of last season thanks to their 28-14 home victory over the Chantilly Chargers.
The game began the night of Sept. 8. With 5:51 left in the high-school football contest, weather postponed the finish of the game until the next afternoon with McLean ahead 28-14.
Against Chantilly, Kaelan Ferris caught a touchdown pass from Ethan Ball on a fourth down play. Ferris also ran for three touchdowns. He gained 101 rushing yards and caught four passes for 61 yards.
"He is having a special season," McLean coach Joe Cockerham said about Ferris.
Ball passed for 128 yards and did not have an interception. He added 10 yards rushing.
Malcolm Andrews caught three passes, Logan Blake two and Vaughn McCollough one.
McLean's leading tacklers on defense were Kevin Kabasele, Will Lewey, Conor Patton, Noah Jander (two for losses) and Carter Brown.
McLean also blocked a punt in the win and Mazen Adam recovered a fumble. Nathan Bender kicked four extra points.
The Highlanders led in the game, 7-0, fell behind 14-7, then rallied to score the final three touchdowns.
Ball passed for 139 yards and the team ran for 121 more, with no turnovers and only four penalties.
