Behind another strong performance by runningback Kaelan Ferris, the McLean Highlanders remained undefeated at 4-0 with a 19-6 road victory over the Edison Eagles the night of Sept. 14 in Franconia.
The McLean High School football team won only one game last season.
Ferris ran for 124 yards and caught two touchdown passes from Ethan Ball for seven and 40 yards. Ferris caught nine passes for 94 yards.
"We struggled in the running game because Edison made it tough for us," McLean coach Joe Cockerham said. "So we were able to throw to Kaelan with success."
Ferris and Ball have been the big offensive producers for McLean through four games. Ferris has rushed for 572 yards and caught 15 passes for 158.
McLean's other touchdown against Edison was a 12-yard scoring pass from Ball to Malcolm Andrews (two catches, 15 yards). Nathan Bender kicked one extra point.
The Highlanders scored all 19 points in the second quarter.
Ball was 18 of 23 passing for 153 yards and ran for 15. Vaughn McCollough caught six passes for 41 yards and Logan Blake one for three.
On defense for McLean, Solei Samad and Jahi Jemison had interceptions. Tackling leaders were Jemison, Will Lewey, Easton Johnson, Kevin Kabasele, Carter Brown and Mark Karam.
Cockerham singled out Lewey for leading the defense.
"Our defense has done a great job," Cockerham said. "We are right where we want to be going into the district schedule."
McLean begins its Liberty District schedule on Friday night, Sept. 22 at home at 7 p.m. against the Marshall Statesmen (3-1).
NOTE: The 4-0 start is McLean's best since beginning with an 8-0 record in 2010.
