Since the 2012 summer season, every two or three years the Langley Wildthings have won a Northern Virginia Swimming League division championship.
This summer, Langley tied for the Division 2 title with the Crosspointe Cruisers of Fairfax Station with a 4-1 record. In a head-to-head meet, Langley defeated Crosspointe by four points, but there is no tie-breaker to determine a championship in the NVSL.
The Wildthings’ last division crown came in 2021 when they finished 5-0, also winning Division 2. In program history, Langley has won 13 division championships, the first in 1968 when the Wildthings went 5-0 in Division 1.
Following the 2024 regular season, Langley swimmers had a strong showing at the six-team Division 2 divisional individual championships. Wildthings swimmers who won two races each that day were Celina Feng, Bryce Eaton and Felix Yu.
Single race-winners were Sophia Alexandrova-Bailey, Henry Rossman, Cameron Morris and Ella Mueller. Shoshana Feng and Kira Thornton each finished second in two races.
Single second-place finishers were Rossman, Evan Poulos, Hunter Ashworth, Ariana DiMonte, Tessa Jones, Ellora Patel, Natasha Nesterova and Owen Batten.
Alexandrova-Bailey, Mueller, Poulos, and Nesterova led the third-place finishers along with Christian Kim, John Alms, Marina Miller, Luca Sanchez, Marigold Yu, Divya Pai and Mariana Watson.
Henry Singleton, Molly Sullivan, Evelyn Volovar, Avery Batten, Amiya Bagla, Ethan Ramchand, and Elliot Bendahan were among other winners of races during regulara-season meets for Langley.
In the NVSL, usually division champions move up to the higher division for the next season. With Langley and Crosspointe tying for first, both could move up or only one. That decision won’t be made until late March or April.
Langley placed last in Division 1 in 2022, finishing 0-5, then dropping back to Division 2 for the next season.
