With a 4-0 record for the second time in program history, the Langley Saxons can achieve a first by starting a high-school football season with 5-0 mark by winning on the road over the Lightridge Bolts of Aldie at 7 p.m. Sept. 27 in Loudoun County.
The task could be tall. Although Lightridge has a 1-3 record, the Bolts have been defeated by two teams with 4-0 records and another with a 3-1 mark. All three losses were close.
Langley improved to 4-0 this fall for the first time since 1986 (the other was in 1977) by routing the visiting Justice Wolves, 48-7, building a 41-0 halftime lead the night of Sept. 21. The Saxons gained 278 total yards and held Justice to only 63, allowing only two first downs and taking advantage of three turnovers.
Langley scored two touchdowns on defense, a fumble return by Robert Roncskevitz and an 18-yard interception runback by Ellington Roane.
On offense, Roncskevitz ran for 36 yards and two touchdowns; Jackson Popovich had 79 yards rushing, including a five-yard scoring run; Vincent Shen caught a 42-yard touchdown pass from Cole Samburg; and Eli Dyrud had a 49-yard scoring pass from Samburg, 4 of 5 passing for 87 yards and he ran for 18 more. Cardin Clarke completed one pass for 31.
Thomas Gill recovered a fumble for Langley and Mateo Arboleda kicked seven extra points.
