By winning their final four meets, the Hamlet Green Feet finished as three-way diving champions in Division VIII of the Northern Virginia Swimming League this summer.
The McLean squad ended the campaign with a 4-1 record, tying for first with Orange Hunt and Stratford. In dual meets, Hamlet defeated Orange Hunt and lost to Stratford.
The division title was Hamlet’s first since tying for first, also with a 4-1 mark, in 2016. Last summer Hamlet finished fourth in Division VIII with a 2-3 record.
“Speaking as a team representative, I am very proud of the teamwork, team spirit and camaraderie that the coaches and divers shared this season,” Phyllis Hashemi said. “It was such a joy to see their successes, big and small.”
Matteo Vasiliadis, a former top local high-school diver for the Langley Saxons, coached the Hamlet divers this summer.
Top divers for Hamlet on the girls side were Miah Collazo, Campbell Kurpiel, Abby Pickhard, Anna Pereira Kim, Alicia Pereira Kim, Grace Wegner, Artemisia Hashemi and Kate Gentry.
For the boys, top divers were Noah Collazo, William Gentry, Alan Fu, Jacob Ross, Cooper Short and Anthony Maull.
Those girls and boys divers all placed high at the Division VIII divisional meet, held at Hamlet.
Next, Fu finished third in the intermediate boys division at the NVSL’s season-ending all-star diving meet.
