Latest: N.Va. likely will escape head-on collision with Debby

Conditions could still be unpleasant toward the end of the week
weather-update-080524
An Aug. 5, 2024, update from the National Weather Service shows how the local area is likely to fair, wind-wise, from what is now Tropical Storm Debby.

New National Hurricane Center projections suggest that Northern Virginia won't need to worry about tropical-storm winds (39 mph and higher sustained) as whatever remains of Tropical Storm Debby passes by the region later in the week.

The local area is to the west of the current cone of tropical-storm conditions, although that path could change substantially in coming days.

While there may be no direct hit, the area will see ancillary impacts, including, potentially, heavy rains and windy conditions.
