Home sales across the Washington region for the first two-thirds of 2024 were relatively flat compared to a year ago, while prices continued to rise.
The 33,892 homes going to closing for the January-through-August period represented a decline of 2 percent from the same eight-month stretch last year, according to figures reported Sept. 11 by Bright MLS, the region’s multiple-listing service.
The median sales price for these transactions was $610,000 for 2024, up 6.1 percent from $575,000 for 2023.
Figures represent data for the District of Columbia; Arlington, Fairfax and Loudoun counties and the cities of Alexandria, Fairfax and Falls Church in Virginia; and Montgomery, Prince George’s and Frederick counties in Maryland.
Figures represent most, but not all, homes on the market. Year-to-date 2024 figures are preliminary and are subject to revision.
