Home-buyers across the Washington region in July shelled out more, on a per-square-foot basis, than they had a year before.
The nine localities across the region tracked by the GazetteLeader all were in positive territory on a per-square-foot basis, based on an analysis of data supplied by Bright MLS, the region’s multiple-listing service.
The District of Columbia led the pack, as it often does, with an average per-square-foot sales price of $543, up 2.5 percent from $530 a year before.
Arlington was the only other local jurisdiction in the $500-and-up-club, with its average sales price of $523 per square foot rising 10.8 percent from $472.
Three additional Northern Virginia localities rounded out the top five:
• The average per-square-foot cost of $473 in Alexandria was up 4.4 percent from $453.
• The average cost of $457 in Falls Church was up 19 percent from $384.
• The average cost of $366 in Fairfax County was up 4.9 percent from $349.
Rounding out the region: Montgomery County posted an average per-square-foot cost of $327, up from $317; Loudoun’s average cost of $299 was up from $278; in Prince George’s County, the average price of $252 was up from $246; and in Prince William County, the $250 average cost was up from $231.
