Yorktown shells place high in various crew regattas

Boys second eight won a state title; three more boats finished fourth

The Yorktown High School boys second eight shell won a state championship during the spring crew season.

The Yorktown High School crew team completed a successful season this spring with various shells placing high in regattas.

The girls varsity eight, the girls second eight and the boys varsity eight all finished fourth in the state-championship competition on the  Occoquan River.

Also at states, the boys second eight, boys third and fourth eights and the girls freshmen eight all finished first. The girls third eight was second, the boys novice eight was third, the boys freshmen eight was fourth, the girls novice four was fourth and the boys novice four was fourth in its heat.

Next, at the Stotesbury Cup Regatta on the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, the boys second eight advance to a finals and finished fifth.

The boys and girls freshmen eights also advanced to the finals, finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

Other Yorktown shells participated in the regatta like the boys junior eight and the girls lightweight four.

At the Scholastic Rowing Association of America National meet the following weekend in Camden, N.J., four Yorktown shells advanced to the semifinals.

Also, the girls freshmen eight finished fourth in its grand final, the boys first varsity eight was fifth in the petite final and the girls second varsity eight and the boys freshmen eight advanced to the semifinals.
