Yorktown High girls soccer team off to an 8-1 overall start

Patriots lead Liberty District with a 2-0 mark

In girls soccer, the defending Class 6 state champion Yorktown Patriots continued to have a strong season as they began the week with an 8-1 overall record, a seven-match winning streak, four shutouts and a 2-0 mark in the Liberty District.

Yorktown’s most recent victories were over Herndon, 4-1, and Wakefield, 3-0, in district contests.

Moira Flynn scored two goals in each game, with an assist against Wakefield. Other goal scorers were Evelyn Casadaban, Quincy Greene and Reese Montgomery. Others with assists were Aminata Davis with two, Emma Pericak, Talia Agrillo and Kate Haley.

Flynn has scored some 10 goals this season.

Yorktown routed West Potomac, 8-1, in its last non-district game. Ellington Emery, Flynn and Greene each scored two goals, with Emery having an assist. Haley and Jessie Talotta scored single goals and Agrillo had two assists.

Yorktown’s remaining games are against district opponents.

• The Wakefield Warriors began the week with a 3-5 overall record, with a recent 6-3 victory over Falls Church.

• A young Washington-Liberty girls team, a squad with a roster that includes just three seniors, began the week with a 5-1-4 overall record and a six-match unbeaten streak.

The team’s most recent victory was 2-1 over the Langley Saxons in Liberty District action. Prior to that win, the Generals blanked Edison, 6-0, in a non-district game.

The team began the season with three straight ties.
