Led by two individual race-winners, the Yorktown Patriots won their sixth straight Liberty District girls swimming and diving championship this season with 496 points.

In the boys meet, Yorktown also won by three points over the Langley Saxons after initially thought to have finished second by one point to Langley. A few days later, though, it was discovered that the diving points had not added into the final scoring. Once that was done, Yorktown was declared the winner.

The double victories for the Yorktown teams were the first since 2019.

“What a week,” Yorktown coach Torey Ortmayer said. “Both teams got pumped up for the finals. The girls had a smaller margin of victory this time, but the team is still very good and has a lot of depth with a lot of versatile swimmers. Our boys scored a lot of points in the B heats and leaned on their depth.”

In the girls meet, Rachel Conley in the 200 freestyle (1:51.35) and Nora Sherman in the 100 backstroke (57.72) were Yorktown’s two race winners in the high-school meet. Conley also placed second in the 100 free, and Sherman was runner-up in the 200 individual medley.

Other top finishers for the Patriots included Sophie Fredericks with a second in the butterfly and third in the back, Clara McCarthy was second in the 500 free and third in the 200 free, Lauren Fatouros was third in the breaststroke and second in the IM, Ashley Gregory was third in the 500 free and had a sixth-place finish, Sarah Newman was fifth in the 50 free and seventh in the 100 free, Scarlett Gray was fourth in the 100 free and sixth in the back, Clara Smith was seventh in the fly, Jay Young was sixth in the 500 free and Sabrina O’Dea seventh in the breast and Alaina Desautels was a top finisher.

In the relays, Yorktown was second in the 400 free, third in the medley and fourth in the 200. Conley and Nora Sherman were among those who swam on those relays.

Also in the girls meet, the Washington-Liberty Generals finished fifth and the Wakefield Warriors were sixth.

For W-L, Charlie Scogna was second in the breast and fourth in the IM, and Sasha Taylor and Taylor Woodworth had top finishes. The 400 free relay was fourth. Josie Gieseman had an eighth and swam on two W-L relays and Kate Taylor.

For Wakefield, Natalie Kaldahl and Yalguun Baterdene had top-eight finishes.

• In the boys meet, Nolan Dunkel had a first in the 50 free (21.0) and back (49.97) to lead Yorktown, and swam on the winning 200 free relay and on the second-place medley relay.

Billy Weber in the breast (59.75) was Yorktown’s other individual winner. He was fifth in the 100 free.

Yorktown’s Luke Aslaksen was second in the 50 free and 100 free, Noah Robinson was fourth in the fly and fifth in the IM, Sam Beall was seventh in the 500 free as was Zach Black in the breast and Michael Owen in the 200 free, and Phillip Brooke was eighth in the breast. Rayce Winn was second in diving.

The Wakefield boys finished fifth and the W-L boys sixth.

For W-L, Eli Martin won the IM in 1:52.54 and was fifth in the 500.

For Wakefield, Ibrahim Diouf, Zach Berner, Cyrus Beauvais and Joseph Madigan had top-six finishes.
