Trailing the host McLean Highlanders 27-26 at halftime, the Washington-Liberty Generals rallied in the second half to win 73-59 in the Liberty District boys high-school basketball game Feb. 7 and remain in sole possession of second place.

Washington-Liberty (14-7, 8-3) took the lead for good at 45-42 on a three-pointer by Brian Weiser late in the third period, then gradually pulled away in the fourth.

Weiser led W-L with 24 points, seven rebounds, three steals and a couple of assists, and missed much of the first quarter when he picked up two quick fouls.

Elijah Hughes scored 16 points, had nine rebounds, two steals and one block for the Generals. James McIntyre scored 11 and had three rebounds, and Matt Bristol and  Collin Lu scored six each.

McIntyre and Weiser each made two three-pointers and Max Hickey made one.

The win was Washington-Liberty’s second over McLean this season.

For McLean, Daniel Frimbres scored 24 and made three three-pointers, Isaac Bell scored 15 and made two threes, Davis Sawyer had eight points and Jakob Luu scored seven.

Overall, the Generals have won six straight district games since losing to the Wakefield Warriors. Those Arlington rivals are scheduled to meet Friday, Feb. 10 at W-L at 7:30 p.m.

If Wakefield defeats W-L, the Warriors will finish second in the district regular-season stands and the Generals third.

Wakefield defeated the Yorktown Patriots, 66-62, in another all-Arlington clash the night of Feb. 9 as the Warriors Kobe Davis scored 23 points, including 13 in the fourth
