Wakefield athletes place high at Ramtastic track & field meet

Some individuals, girls 4x100 relay win their events

Wakefield High School's Jackson Gray finished fifth in the pole vault at the Ramtastic Invitational meet.

Led by multiple top finishes from Chris Gilpin and Travon Buckner in the boys meet and Kenedy Shields and Grace Armitage in the girls, the Wakefield Warriors had a strong showing at the Ramtastic Invitational high-school track and field event, held in the fog and drizzle April 27 at Robinson Secondary School in Fairfax.

Armitage won the 300 hurdles (47.18), was second in the long jump, fourth in the triple jump and sixth in the 100 hurdles.

Shields was second in the high jump, third in the 200 and fourth in the 100.

Buckner won the triple jump (42-feet-1.75-inches) and was fourth in the long jump,

Gilpin was second in the long jump, third in the 200 meters and sixth in the 100 dash.

Also for the Wakefield girls individually, Addison Young was sixth in the 1,600 and seventh in the 800, Julissa Hernandez-Pereira was sixth in the discus, Sofia Vazquez was seventh in the pole vault and Hosanna Connor was eighth in the long jump.

Wakefield’s 4x100 relay won in 49.93 seconds. Armitage, Shields, Kennedy McClary and Jillian Reck made up that relay.

Many others had top places for the Wakefield boys.

Ben Chapuis was second in the high jump and fifth in the long jump, Frank Mani was second in the triple jump, Michael Hutchinson was third in the shot put and fifth in the discus, Liam Keish was fourth in the 800, Jackson Gray was fifth in the pole vault, Noah Gunville was sixth in the 3,200, Thuyon Smith was sixth in the 200 and 12th in the 100 and Silas Lesparance was seventh in the 400.
