Three Arlington swim teams return to same summer divisions

Five-week regular season begins in mid June

While Arlington’s Donaldson Run Thunderbolts and Overlee Flying Fish remain in the top Division 1 of the Northern Virginia Swimming League this summer, the annual realignment prior to each new season will have the Arlington Tigers in the same division as a year ago, but the Dominion Hills Thunder Ducks in a different one when the 2024 campaign begins in June.

Arlington’s Dominion Hills won the Division 8 title last summer with a 5-0 record. As a result, the team has moved up one position to Division 7. Arlington Forest was 2-3 in Division 9 a year ago and is staying put for 2024.

Overlee finished second in Division 1 with a 4-1 record a year ago. When the new season begins, the Flying Fish will be in Division 1 for the 62nd straight year, having won 29 titles in the top division. Donaldson Run will be in Division 1 for the fifth straight summer, finishing 2-3 the last three seasons. (The 2020 campaign was canceled because of the pandemic.)

Overlee and Donaldson Run are scheduled to meet the second week of the regular season on June 22 at Overlee at 9 a.m.

The NVSL’s five-week regular season begins Saturday, June 15 with 9 a.m. meets.

In those events, Donaldson Run hosts defending champion Tuckahoe of McLean, Overlee visits Highlands Swim of McLean, Dominion Hills is at Rolling Hills of Springfield and Arlington Forest visits Lakeview of Fairfax.

The NVSL consists of 17 divisions. The divisional relays meets are Wednesday, June 26 with the league-wide all-star relay carnival, Wednesday, July 10 at Rutherford pool in Fairfax.

Following the five-meet regular-season comes the NVSL posteason with the 17 divisional meets July 20, followed by the individual all-star meet on July 27, this year at Pinecrest pool in Herndon.

Overlee will host the Division I divisional meet and Arlington Forest will hold the Division 9 divisionals.
