O'Connell swim teams sixth, seventh in big Prep League Meet

With Caroline Mullen leading the way with two seventh-place finishes in the swimming finals and divers Lili Leporte and Maddie Cervenak placing fifth and seventh, respectively, the Bishop O’Connell Knights wound up sixth at the annual multi-team Washington Metropolitan Prep School Swim Dive League championships.

The high-school meet was held Feb. 3 at the University of Maryland.

The O’Connell girls scored 312 points. There were 24 teams that scored, with Holton-Arms School winning with 634.

Mullen was seventh in the 200 and 500 freestyle races and she swam on relays.

Also for the Knights, Carlin Smittle was 10th in the 500 free; Claire Thompson was 12th in the 100 breaststroke and 18th in the individual medley; Caeli McIntosh was 13th in the 500; Moira Kinsella was 20th in the breast and 24th in the IM; Molly Kinsella swam on the sixth-place medley relay along with Thompson, Smittle and Molly Bedford; and Reagan Cervenak was 13th in diving.

In the boys meet, O’Connell finished seventh with 306 points, led by a third in the 500 free by Paul Mullen a 10th in the 200 free and he swam on two relays. Timothy Adye was fifth in the 100 free, Graham Rowan seventh in the 100 backstroke and diver Kellen Colevas finished fourth.

Gonzaga won with 773.
