After 17 seasons as Washington-Liberty's head girls field hockey coach, Beth Prange has stepped down.

She’s retiring as the Washington-Liberty Generals’ longtime girls varsity field hockey coach, but Beth Prange will remain heavily involved and very visible in the girls high-school sport.

Prange coached the team for 17 seasons, with the Generals winning three district championships, finishing second in the region tournament once and winning more than 100 matches under her helm. The team qualified for the state the year it finished second in the region, but that season only one team, instead of the usual two from a region, moved on to the state tournament because of the pandemic.

In 2021, Prange was chosen as the Better Sports Club of Arlington’s high-school Coach of the Year. She also won district and region Coach of the Year honors during her field hockey tenure.

In addition to field hockey, Prange coached other girls sports at Washington-Liberty. She was the head girls lacrosse coach for one season and a varsity basketball assistant and junior-varsity soccer coach for many years.

Prange retired from her full-time job with Arlington Public Schools two years ago, but continued to coach the field hockey team.

“It’s time to move on and on to the next chapter,” Prange said. “I will miss the relationships I had made with the players. Washington-Liberty is a great community and I will miss that as well.”

That next chapter will be as a full-time referee for girls high-school field hockey matches in Northern Virginia.

“I’m excited about doing that, there won’t be the stress of coaching,” Prange said.

Prange is one of the longest tenured girls field hockey coaches in Northern Region so she will know most of the other coaches of the games she officiates.
