Arlington wrestlers win, place in district tournament

Three Yorktown grapplers win individual title with 3-0 records

Yorktown High School's Combyses Khani won a Liberty District wrestling championship.

With three individiual champions and a runner-up, the Yorktown Patriots placed fourth in the Feb. 2 Liberty District tournament at Langley High School.

The champions were Cambyses Khani at 106 pounds, Max Apsel (138) and Liam Gil-Swiger (165).

All three wrestlers were 3-0. Khani had a pin and two decisions; Apsel had a pin, a major decision and a regular decision in the final; and Gil-Swiger had two first-period pins and a regular decison in the final.

Finishing second was Telmuun Bayambajargal (190).

Third for Yorktown were Tsolmon Enkhgerd (120), Chris Cobey (132) and Peter Kress (150).

The Washington-Liberty Generals finished sixth, with Basleale Mulugeta their highest place in second at 106.

Third for W-L were Khangal Dulguun (157), Ryan Boyd (165) and Telmuulen Sanjaa (175). Fourth were David Portillo (113), Dominik Woodard (126) and Bilegjargal Miyaragchaa (150).

The Wakefield Warriors placed seventh, with Tanner Nelson (138) and Owen McGinnis (144) each finishing fourth.

• For the Bishop O’Connell Knights in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference tournament, Josh Taliaferro was third at 113 and Peter Bilankiuk fourth at 126.
