Arlington Tigers gymnasts place high in many events at top meets

The Arlington Tigers boys gymnastics team concluded a standout season by most recently competing at the 2023 Eastern National Championship in Florida, and previously at state and region competitions.

At nationals, Tigers gymnasts medaled in the all-around, floor exercise, pommel horse, vault, rings and parallel bars and high bar. The team finished fourth in Level 7.

For the Tigers, Mark Bjorn was sixth in the all-round, with a second on the floor.

In his group, Aydin Guleyupoglu placed sixth in the all-around, with a third on the pommel horse.

Also, Evan Virtue was third in the all-around in his age group; Ryan Phillips was 15th; Max Eichers was 16th, with a first on the high bar and third on the vault; Will Terzaken was third in the all-around in his age group and level, with a second on the parallel bars and a second in the high bar.

At the previous state-championship meet, the Tigers dominated, with many gymnasts placing high in their levels and age divisions.

Virtue, Misha Rendak, Alan Glosh, Calisto Lopez Norman, Jack Bowman and Rocco Giambalvo all finished first in the all-around. Julian Hefron, Caleb Saunders, Henry Scott, Toby Chen, Kris Martelli, Hirad Hosseinkhani and Jackson Reifsteck were second. Eichers, Charlie Morrison, Dante Jaramillo and Jack Ezzelle placed third.

At the Region 7 meet, Lopez Norman, Morrison, Reifsteck and Giambalvo were first in the all-around. Virtue and Jaramillo were second and Chen, Martelli and Hosseinkhani third.

Also, Tomo Uno won the vault; Nicholas Bartl was third on the pommel horse and vault; Bowman was second on the rings and third on the parallel bars; Bjorn won the rings; Guleyupoglu won the high bar and was second on the pommel horse; Eichers was second on the high bar and third on the vault; and Terzaken won the high bar and was second on the floor.
