Letter: Roy understands consequences that accompany urbanization

'Her election will help redirect an elected body that has lost its way'
letter-to-editor

To the editor: We are writing in support of Natalie Roy’s candidacy for Arlington County Board because we feel her election will help redirect an elected body that has lost its way.

The current County Board is driven by the goal of high density and growth – something many of us moved to Arlington to avoid.  The same board that allowed scores of McMansions to be built now seems to think new dwellings like $1.3M townhouses will rectify Arlington’s ugly history of racial exclusion.

Influenced by national organizations funded by developers, County Board members refuse to face the consequences of their zoning decisions, as highlighted by the fact that one member is not committed enough to Arlington to complete her term of service.

Roy, who does not share the County Board’s dystopian vision of clear-cutting trees to erect giant dwellings on tiny lots, desires to improve the quality of life for all citizens of the county. We believe she will do this via policy analysis rather than deference to developers.
