Letter: Primaries are open to all; don't let others say they aren't

Arlington voters will have most impact by taking part in nomination contests
letter-to-editor

To the editor: To clarify for all Arlington residents – the June 20 Democratic primary is open to ALL registered voters. No one will ask you to sign a “party pledge” in this (or any) Virginia primary election.

Erroneous voting information is floating around, aimed at keeping people away from the June 20 Arlington Democratic primary, which is open now to early voting. Virginia law allows anyone to vote in a primary of either party.

To imply that a pledge is required is at best misleading and at worst intentionally deceptive – intended to intimidate people to not vote in this primary.

Based on Arlington voting patterns, whoever wins the Democratic primary will be elected in November and will take office. It is important that everyone know they can make their vote count by participating in the Democratic primary now.
