Letter: Get out and vote in local, legislative elections

'Vote, vote, vote – the only thing that protects our Democratic constitutional republic.'
letter-to-editor

To the editor: November 7, November 7, November 7. That is Election Day in Virginia. Vote, vote, vote – the only thing that protects our Democratic constitutional republic.

As the country watched for some three weeks, the crazy conference, affectionately known, masquerading as Republicans, in chaos, finally selected someone to lead them as Speaker ending the paralysis of the House. Voting is the only antidote.

In our area, two beloved public servants, Del. Kathleen Murphy and Supervisor John Foust are retiring. Their exemplary service to their constituents, regardless of party, will be sorely missed. They deserve heartfelt thanks. They leave a legacy of common sense problem solving for all. This as an example to those who follow.

Fortunately, Jimmy Bierman, experienced community leader and lifelong resident of the district, is ready to step in to the Supervisor position and continue to build on the progress that is their legacy. Redistricting has brought two legislative veterans to continue this service: Del. Rip Sullivan and state Sen. Jennifer Boysko.

Juxtapose this stable transition with what was going on in the U.S. House of Representatives. Vote.
