Letter: Candidate Cunningham will get Arlington back on right path

County Board aspirant has the right set of tools for leadership
letter-to-editor

To the editor: As a 43-year resident of Arlington, I have seen many County Board members, on both sides of the aisle, come and go.

Some leaders have proactively and effectively engaged with the community, often in the face of voter opposition, while others have demonstrated unwillingness or inability to lead.

With the departure of two board members not seeking re-election, the November ballot will provide voters with an opportunity to shape a new board with more effective and accountable leadership on critical issues like those pesky housing options.

Susan Cunningham, one of those running in the June 20 Democratic primary, definitely will help bring Arlington back together.

Cunningham is a longtime Arlingtonian, a mom and an engineer, who has demonstrated her acumen for managing change, particularly long-range planning for schools and other public facilities.

Recently, she was asked to take the helm of the AHC Inc. and now Arlington Thrive, two nonprofits that provide housing and financial support to low-income Arlingtonians.

Cunningham listens, inquires, speaks up and leads. Arlington needs her thoughtful, decisive and bold leadership on the County Board.
