Time flies: Barbara Favola has now served the local community, first on the Arlington County Board and now in the state Senate, for more than a quarter century. And in the June 20 primary, she aims to survive a challenge within the Democratic ranks and move on to the general election in the new-due-to-redistricting District 40.
Compared to her previous district, which sprawled all the way out to Loudoun County, the newly drawn 40th is its polar opposite: completely compact and located exclusively within Arlington.
Favola is a virtual lock for renomination (and ultimate re-election), but on June 20 is being challenged by James DeVita, a local attorney.
DeVita seems like a good guy and his positions on the issues would seem acceptable to the Arlington Democratic electorate. But he is little-known in the community and unlikely to pose much of a threat to Favola, who has steamrolled opponents throughout her political career.
This endorsement is easy: Among the two options, BARBARA FAVOLA deserves the nod of primary voters.
