Washington-Liberty Theatre will wrap up a two-weekend production of “Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street” with performances Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m. and Saturday, May 4 at 1:30 and 7 p.m. at Washington-Liberty High School.

Based on a character developed during the Victorian era and enlarged in a 1970 play by Christopher Bond, the musical – featuring music/lyrics by Stephen Sondheim and book by Hugh Wheeler – debuted on Broadway in 1979 and has been performed worldwide in the years since.

“A victim of a gross injustice that robbed him of his wife and child, Sweeney Todd sets about exacting a terrible revenge on society,” producers note.

Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for students. The production contains adult language, violence and elements of gore, and is not recommended for those under 12.
