ARLINGTON – The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) is seeking feedback on a study assessing potential safety, pedestrian and bicycle access, and congestion improvements for the grade-separated interchange at Route 50 (Arlington Boulevard) and Route 27 (Washington Boulevard) in Arlington.

VDOT invites residents and travelers to take an online survey regarding proposed improvements under consideration for key areas of Route 50 between Fillmore Street and North Pershing Drive and Route 27 between Columbia Pike and N. Pershing Drive. Community input received through this survey will help the study team refine the recommendations for potential improvements and determine whether to pursue future funding opportunities.

The survey, which has a translation tool for other languages, will be available through May 21.

In addition to the survey, comments can be emailed to meetingcomments@vdot.virginia.gov.

This study is being conducted as part of the Project Pipeline program, which was created by the Commonwealth Transportation Board (CTB). Project Pipeline is a performance-based planning program to identify cost-effective solutions to multimodal transportation needs in Virginia. Project Pipeline is led by Virginia’s Office of Intermodal Planning and Investment (OIPI), in collaboration with VDOT and the Department of Rail and Public Transportation (DRPT)

The Commonwealth is partnering with Arlington County to develop targeted improvements for the Route 50 and Route 27 study that minimize community impacts and address priority needs in a cost-effective way. This study is expected to be complete this summer; it does not set construction dates for any improvements. The final plan will provide a multimodal investment strategy that can be used to seek and secure funding through programs including Smart ScaleRevenue Sharing, interstate funding, and others.
