The Treasurers Association of Virginia presented its highest award to the late Arlington Treasurer Frank O’Leary June 25 during the organization’s 93rd annual meeting.

O’Leary, who served 30+ years in office following his first election victory in 1983, died at age 80 on June 7.

The L. Gene Harding Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to O’Leary’s widow, Linda O’Leary. The former treasurer had learned about his selection prior to his death.

Representing elected treasurers from across the commonwealth, the Treasurers Association of Virginia met June 23-26 at the Fairview Park Marriott. The event was hosted by Falls Church Treasurer Jody Acosta.

Following his death, O’Leary had been lauded in a memorial resolution by the Virginia State Senate. A companion measure, patroned by Del. Patrick Hope (D-Arlington), was approved by the House of Delegates on June 28.
