Trio of constitutional aspirants appear safe

Incumbent clerk of court, treasurer likely to be unopposed; contender for commissioner of revenue, too
Vote

Two of Arlington’s five constitutional officers who did not face challenges in the June 20 Democratic primary have qualified for the Nov. 7 ballot and it appears will be moving on unopposed to the general election.

Barring a (very) last minute challenger emerging, Clerk of the Circuit Court Paul Ferguson and Treasurer Carla de la Pava will be unopposed in November. So, too, will Kim Klingler, who is running to succeed Commissioner of Revenue Ingrid Morroy, who is retiring (and has endorsed Klingler).

All three have qualified to be on the ballot, county election officials confirmed.

The terms of commissioner of revenue and treasurer are for four years; the clerk of court is an eight-year position.

The other two of Virginia’s five constitutional offices – commonwealth’s attorney and sheriff – were being contested in the June 20 primary. It appears the winners in those races will move on unopposed to the general election.

The clerk of court and commonwealth’s attorney also represent the city of Falls Church.
