Sarah Strickland of Arlington earned a master of science degree in food and nutrition services during recent commencement exercises at the University of Mississippi.

Charlotte Thomson, the daughter of Robert and Erin Thomson of Arlington, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at St. Olaf College.

Thomas Sullivan of Arlington has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Saint Anselm College.

• Nineteen Arlington Public Schools students have been added to the ranks of those who have received certification through the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards.

“While state licensing systems set basic requirements to teach, teachers who earn national board certification have successfully demonstrated advanced teaching knowledge, skills and practices,” county school officials said in announcing the new cohort of certified teachers.

Certification through the national board usually takes between one and three years to complete, and is considered the “gold standard” for educational certification.

• Swanson Middle School seventh-grader L.J. Sieff recently presented a report – “Making Mathematics Accessible for Disabled Students Who Use AAC (Augmentative Assistive Communication)” – at the National Assistive Technology Industry Association Conference

The session highlighted the importance of universal design for learning, self-advocacy, and engagement of the AAC community to meet the needs of students in academically rigorous settings, Superintendent Francisco Durán said at the Feb. 16 School Board meeting.

• The Arlington School Board is on the hunt for its 2020 “Honored Citizens,” and is seeking nominations from the public through March 13.

Individuals selected each year have performed longstanding volunteer service in support of one or more schools or the school system as a whole. The 2023 honorees will be celebrated during an April 19 program.
