The Kiwanis Club of South Arlington recently bestowed on its president-elect, Andres Tobar, the Hixson Fellowship.

The award can be presented to a member or other supporter when a local club makes a donation of at least $1,000 to the Kiwanis Children’s Fund. The fund supports social-safety-net efforts focused on children worldwide.

It is the first such award by the South Arlington club.

Tobar has served as president of the Kiwanis Club of South Arlington several times in the past, and will begin a new term as president in October. He also serves as executive director of the Shirlington Employment & Education Center (SEEC) and is active in numerous community efforts.

Last fall, Tobar was one of three Arlingtonians named 2023 recipients of the Arlington Community Foundation’s William T. Newman Jr. Spirit of Community Award.
